In December 2005, 55 wheelchairs specially designed for children in developing countries were distributed by the Club. The wheelchairs were made by Wheelchairs For Kids in Perth Australia and freight to Tanzania was paid by Barrick Gold of Australia.

Fifty of the wheelchairs were donated to needy children in Dar es Salaam and five went to Zanzibar in a joint handover with the Rotary Club of Stone Town Zanzibar.

The Club hopes to make this project an ongoing one as the need is so great and it changes not only the child's life but the mother's life as well. The wheelchairs go to the poorest of the poor. In many cases, the child is completely housebound as he or she is too heavy for the mother to carry.
